Are you a passionate Social Worker looking for a role where you can make a real difference to people’s lives while being part of a supportive and forward-thinking team?

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Adult Disability Focus part of the team within the Dawlish and Teignmouth Community Health and Social Care Team. In Devon, we are committed to supporting our workforce to thrive, providing opportunities to develop your skills, grow your career and deliver excellent, person-centred practice that achieves the best outcomes for people.

Why join us?

Based along Devon’s stunning south coast, our team serves the vibrant communities of Dawlish, Teignmouth and the surrounding areas. You’ll enjoy the benefits of working in a beautiful coastal location while undertaking rewarding and meaningful social work that helps people achieve what matters most to them.

Our Coastal Team forms part of the wider South Devon locality, working closely with neighbouring Newton Abbot and Moor to Sea Health and Social Care Teams. We support adults of working age with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and lifelong conditions, including young people transitioning into adult services. We also work with older adults experiencing physical health needs, mental health challenges and dementia, alongside providing support to carers.

A varied and rewarding role

No two days are the same. You will work with a diverse range of people, supporting them to maintain independence, build on their strengths and achieve their personal goals.

Working within a welcoming multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Social Care Assessors, health professionals and community partners to deliver coordinated and effective support.

We have strong relationships with local providers, voluntary organisations and community services, enabling us to take a genuinely strengths-based approach and make the most of the resources available within local communities.

What will you be doing?

As a Social Worker, you will have the opportunity to undertake a broad range of statutory and complex social work responsibilities, including:

  • Care Act assessments and support planning
  • Mental Capacity Act assessments
  • Best Interest decision-making
  • Safeguarding enquiries and interventions
  • Court of Protection applications and proceedings
  • Supporting people through complex transitions and life changes

Much of your work will focus on adults of working age with disabilities and complex needs, helping people maximise their independence and live fulfilling lives.

What we’re looking for

We’re seeking a motivated and compassionate Social Worker who:

  • Is committed to strengths-based, person-centred practice
  • Has excellent assessment, recording and communication skills
  • Enjoys working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment
  • Can manage a varied workload and work autonomously when required
  • Is passionate about achieving positive outcomes for adults and carers

What you can expect from us

In return, you’ll join a friendly, experienced and supportive team that values collaboration, professional development and wellbeing. You’ll receive regular supervision, opportunities for learning and development, and the support needed to build confidence and succeed in your role.

If you’re looking for a rewarding career where you can make a lasting difference while being part of a dedicated and welcoming team, we’d love to hear from you.

Social Worker Career Pathway

We have implemented the first phase of a new Social Worker Career Pathway within our Adults Services, with our vacancies available at the Social Worker (Grade F) or Experienced Social Worker (Grade G) levels. Our Social Worker and Experienced Social Worker roles align with the national Professional Capability Framework (PCF) for Social Workers, which provides a robust structure for all local authorities to use as a way of standardising professional capabilities and provides a clear career pathway.

This is a fantastic opportunity to provide you with an achievable, clear pathway for your career; to enable you as a practitioner to reflect and identify your own practice and development on the PCF pathway.

If successful in being shortlisted for interview, your experience, skills and knowledge, will be assessed against the PCF domains and if found appointable, this will determine your appointment to either the Social Worker (Grade F) or Experienced Social Worker level (Grade G).

With on-going learning and support from your line manager, those appointed as a Social Worker will be able to evidence incremental learning and submit an application in due course for progression to the Experienced Social Worker (Grade G) via a portfolio of supporting evidence against the PCF framework.

What we can offer you

  • We are committed to your continuous professional development, doing all we can to help you to get the most from your career. You will receive excellent support and supervision, with regular opportunities to discuss and reflect on your practice, both with your line manager and peers.
  • We offer 26 days annual leave, plus Bank Holidays, rising incrementally to 31 days after 5 years’ service.
  • Flexible working opportunities are available, these include part-time hours, flexitime, compressed working hours and homeworking (this is subject to the needs of the role – please discuss at further at interview)
  • Offer an opportunity to enter a generous Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • As a place to live and work, Devon is hard to beat with top-performing schools, universities, vibrant cities, pretty villages and some of the most scenic coast and countryside in the UK. Living and working in Devon as a social worker has never been more attractive.
  • Please note: At this time, we are unable to consider overseas applications.
