You will work alongside adults, carers, families and partner agencies across Devon’s varied communities, developing strengths-based practice that focuses on what matters to people and supports independence, choice and wellbeing.

We are looking for committed and motivated Newly Qualified Social Workers who are ready to learn, reflect and grow within our forward-thinking adult social care teams.

  • A recognised professional Social Work Qualification (BA/BSC in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work or CQSW) and to hold Social Work England registration by February 2027.
  • Current knowledge and understanding of policies and processes and some experience of working within a social care environment.
  • Passionate, person-centred and eager to learn, you’ll be ready to make that all-important step from education into your chosen profession.
  • Able to approach complex or challenging situations with curiosity, professionalism and a willingness to learn, using supervision and support appropriately.
  • Developing confidence in professional judgement, decision-making and relationship-building, while recognising when to seek advice, guidance and support.
  • Excellent organisation skills which will enable you to manage your time effectively including prioritising conflicting demands and working effectively under pressure.
  • Able to communicate effectively and build rapport with people of all ages, backgrounds and experiences.

What you can expect from our ASYE programme

Our ASYE programme is designed to help you move from qualification into confident, reflective and effective professional practice. You will have a protected and supportive first year, with opportunities to develop your skills, judgement and professional identity in adult social care.

You can expect reduced caseloads, 20% development time, regular supervision, reflective learning, peer support and training that supports confident practice in assessment, safeguarding, mental capacity, care and support planning. With our previous successes at the Social Worker of the Year Awards, it is a good time to join us.

 In Devon, our adult social care practice is rooted in strengths-based, person-centred approaches. We work with people to understand what matters to them, build on their strengths and networks, and support independence, choice and wellbeing wherever possible.

Your first year could include:

  • Working with adults and carers to complete Care Act assessments, reviews and support planning.
  • Learning how to apply legislation, policy and evidence to real practice situations.
  • Supporting safeguarding work with guidance from experienced practitioners.
  • Building relationships with people, families, carers and partner agencies, and developing confidence in recording, analysis and professional decision-making.
  • Most of your time will be spent carrying out practical social work, but your ASYE year is also a protected opportunity to learn, reflect, ask questions and build confidence in your practice.
