We are now looking for an Intervenor to join our Intervenor Service in the Devon area, working across various locations such as Poltimore, Bovey Tracy, Exeter, Broadclyst, Plymouth and Ottery St. Mary.

We provide 1:1 support to adults who have been born with sight and hearing impairments, known as congenital deafblindness, within their own homes and out in the community.

Intervenors promote personal and social development whilst encouraging independence through enabling access to activities. They provide skilled, perceptive and respectful support, intervening between a deafblind individual and the world.

You will receive specialist training in how to support individuals that have dual-sensory impairments, often combined with other disabilities.

For genuine occupational reasons we are looking to appoint a female candidate only (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9).

This particular role involves supporting someone for 20 hours on a Tuesday and Wednesday, between 8am and 6pm.  There may be ability to look to increase these hours in the future.

It is essential for you to have a full UK license with the use of your own vehicle.

This role might include supporting people with:

  • Day to day activities led by the person you’ll be supporting, including shopping, cleaning, personal care and accessing the community.
  • Enabling an independent lifestyle.
  • Communicating with others.
  • Personal care.
  • Activities such as arts and crafts, music, swimming, sports, exercising to help integration into their local communities.
  • Setting up and attending medical appointments, including medication administration.
  • Working with psychiatrists, therapists and social workers to make sure those supported receive person centred care.

  • Willing to attend training as needed to support you in your role and complete the intervenor pathway, which may initially mean some extra hours.
  • Has an interest in learning basic Italian words and likes films, as well as cooking.
  • Flexible with time and happy to complete overtime when available.
  • BSL Level 1 is preferable for this role, if not a willingness to work towards it.
