We are recruiting for a support worker to provide help and support to a young adult with cerebral palsy, ideally, we are looking for someone who can sensitively deal with behaviours that can challenge.

Please note that due to the intimate nature of care carried out in this role, it is restricted to female applicants only; Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

The client lives at home with her family and has a busy and varied weekly schedule. She loves animals and attends a couple of farms through the week doing different craft activities and spending time with animals and friends. She goes to hydrotherapy once a week, therefore you must be confident in the water and be prepared to get wet, as well as attending other specialist sports clubs and youth clubs.

Our client also loves to listen to music in the home or the car, attending festivals in the summer and going out for meals, to the cinema, bowling and walks with the family dog.

The client requires assistance on a 24-hour basis, either 2:1 or 1:1 support. You must be prepared to work flexible times which include 24-hour shifts, 9am – 9am which include sleeping nights and weekends on a rota basis.

Skills and Duties will include:

·         Following the health and wellbeing plan as documented for the client.

·         Encouraging the client’s independence as far as possible.

·         Working as part of a team and communicating appropriately with fellow team members.

·         Participation in procedures and approaches as specified for the client.

·         Ensuring that opportunity is given to participate in activities as identified by client, family, health, medical and social care team, while achieving a balance between work and rest for the client.

·         Delivering programmes of educational, social, and therapeutic development if required as directed by the relevant professionals.

·         Awareness of any significant changes in the client’s health, functioning or behaviour, and informing the case manager and team leader as appropriate.

·         Awareness of the client’s vulnerability and taking all reasonable precautions to protect it.

·         To provide the opportunity for the client to follow therapeutic guidelines that are in place.

·         To take the client out to activities.

Qualifications and Experience Required

·         As a minimum, applicants will be expected to have some experience of caring for people with physical, behavioural, or learning disabilities.

·         NVQ level 2 in health and social care is desirable.

·         First Aid training will be required and applicants with a recent first aid qualification are desirable.

·         The ability to use IT systems, such as email, internet and electronic records is essential.

·         A full driving license is essential, as the support worker will be required to drive the client.

·         Ability to swim and/or be confident in water to support hydrotherapy sessions.

Training, supervision, and support will be provided as required.

An enhanced DBS check is required for this post.

Does the job role include personal care?: Yes

Working Patterns:

Part-time 1 x 24 hour shift per week

Full-time 2 x 24 hour shifts per week

Working times = 9am - 9am

Essential details:

Must hold a UK driving licence and be confident in driving client's adapted vehicle.

Must be confident in the water, to support client during hydrotherapy sessions.
