At Havencare, first and foremost, we are looking for outstanding people who align with our values of Transparency, Quality and Engagement.

Hourly rate: £11.55 (£11.30 base rate + 25p complex service)

About the Role

We are currently seeking a Support Worker for a 35-year-old active sociable gentleman who has a learning disability and autism. The successful applicant will be working in a Supported Living Plymouth service, supporting an individual living in his own flat who receives 2:1 support.

About you

We are looking to recruit an individual who is upbeat and enjoys a laugh and joke as this gentleman has a brilliant sense of humour and enjoys laughing with his support team. You will have a positive attitude and can adapt to the different requirements of the role – enabling the individual to participate in a range of activities in the community, promoting independence in the home, providing personal care. We are looking for individuals who are interested in the function of (reason for) distressed behaviours and who will employ the principles of positive behavioural support.

Every day is different when working with this gentleman and we are keen to recruit someone who is flexible and will take a person-centred approach – one day you may find yourself assisting him to go swimming at Tinside Lido, another day assisting him to attend the theatre to watch various shows, go out for lunch and attend discos.

We are looking for motivators, who can provide ‘just enough support’ to promote greater independence in the people we support, enabling them to achieve their individual outcomes (goals) and ultimately to live the lives they wish to lead.

Essential Requirements

For occupational requirement reasons we are looking to appoint a Male only for this post (exemption under the Equality Act 2010 Part 1 Schedule 9). We are also looking to recruit a driver as the gentleman has his own car so staff would need to have a full UK driving license to be able to support him to access his wider community.

We will provide you with

  • Quality training and development opportunities to maintain and enhance your skills and knowledge
  • Free 24/7 confidential Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support your health and wellbeing
  • Big financial rewards through our Refer a Friend Scheme
  • Vouchers at Christmas, your work anniversary, and your birthday
  • Paid DBS
  • Annual pay of £15,015 and the opportunity to earn overtime.
  • …and more!

Closing date

The closing date for this vacancy is the Friday 17th November 2023. Applications will be considered as and when received.

If your application is successful, any offer of employment will be subject to:

  • A satisfactory Enhanced DBS check and subsequent registration for the DBS Update Service
  • 2 acceptable / satisfactory references
  • Evidence of eligibility / right to work in the UK

Does the job role include personal care?: No

Working Patterns:

The successful applicant will be working 25 hours per week and must be able to work weekends, evening, and weekdays with sleep-ins over a 4-week rolling Rota:
