The Deaf Academy provides specialist education and care for deaf young people across the United Kingdom. Our students range from 5 to 25 years old and the majority of them also have additional needs. We operate a broad and enriched curriculum, tailored to student’s individual needs. Each student is supported to achieve their learning potential as part of our bilingual learning environment.
In September 2020, we opened our doors to a brand new state-of-the-art campus based in Exmouth, Devon. The new site is designed around the principals of Deaf space, it puts the Deaf Academy at the cutting edge of deaf education.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed individual to provide care and safeguard the welfare of our students, aged 4 – 25 years.
This is a great opportunity to be part of an inspiring team, whilst promoting the social, emotional wellbeing and development of the students. This role will give you a great opportunity to support our students in preparing them to develop their independent living skills, whilst supporting their education. We are looking to recruit dynamic individuals who are self-motivated, resilient and able to work as part of a team working with children who are profoundly deaf and have additional needs.
This role will give you the opportunity to develop within a specialist care environment and be part of delivering life changing opportunities to our young people.
Having a qualification in British Sign language is not essential, as you will also be given the opportunity to achieve up to Level 3 in British Sign Language (BSL) qualification and undertake the Level 3 Children and Young Peoples Workforce Diploma.
The ideal candidates will have an experience of working within a residential environment, although this is not essential as full training will be provided.
The roles are based on the following two week shift pattern:
2 week shift pattern:
Monday 14.00 – 24.00
Tuesday 07.30 – 09.30 & 14.00 – 24.00
Wednesday 07.30 – 09.30
Friday – Monday 15:00 [Friday] – 9:30 [Monday]
Wednesday 14.00 – 24.00
Thursday 07.30 – 09.30 & 14.00 – 24.00
Friday 07.30 – 09.30
(STAFF WILL SLEEP IN ON A ROTA BASIS AT AN EXTRA RATE OF £32.00 per sleep-in)
