Proud to Care Ambassadors are front-line staff who work in a variety of roles in health and care and including nurses, care workers, community matrons, registered managers, mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, support workers, and many more. Proud to Care Ambassadors are using their own knowledge, passion and experience to encourage people to consider careers in the health and care sector.

We currently have over 270 Proud to Care Ambassadors who attend career events at schools, colleges, universities, job centres, employment fairs and apprenticeship events, to enthuse and inspire others to take up opportunities in the health and care sector. They are able to promote current job opportunities in the sector and also demonstrate a variety of career pathways in health and care.

Councillor Andrew Leadbetter, the Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for adult social care said:

“There is no better advert for care than the men and women who day in day out deliver care to people at home, in hospitals, in residential home settings and in communities. Their true stories and enthusiasm for their roles are an inspiration.”

“Attracting recruitment into the health and social care sector has always been a challenge, but through the Proud to Care Devon we are helping to raise the profile of caring across health and care.”

The Proud to Care Ambassadors scheme is run in association with the national Skills for Care I Care…Ambassadors initiative. The Sustainability and Transformation Programme (STP) in wider Devon, representing many care and health organisations, successfully applied to be part of a pilot of Integrated Health and Social Care Ambassadors, run by Skills for Care, delivering joint activity to promote social care and health careers. Following the success of this pilot the STP have formally adopted Proud to Care as the single brand for health and care in Devon and we are continuing to work as an integrated service with both health and care Ambassadors.
